What a great question! Do brown sheepadoodles exist? Indeed they do! Sheepadoodles come in many different colors and patterns with black and white being the most common.

So, how do you get a brown sheepadoodle?

Standard F1 sheepadoodle puppies come from a Standard Poodle and an Old English Sheepdog. At Sheepadoodle.dynasty, Kingston is our Stud and he is a brown/fawn color Old English Sheepdog. It is a very rare color for an Old English Sheepdog. In his litter, he was the only brown one.

Throughout the four litters that his mom had, he was the only brown one. So, it is safe to say that maybe only 1 out of 20 Old English Sheepdogs may turn out brown. His wife, Bailey, is a Parti Standard Poodle with a brown recessive color. She came from a family with brown Parti Poodle puppies.  Parti poodles are known to have a completely black head with a two-colored pattern on their bodies. They come in either brown/white or black/white. A tri-color poodle is called a Phantom Poodle.

When we combine a brown Old English Sheepdog with a black Parti Poodle, the sheepadoodle puppies are 50% OES and 50% poodle with brown being a dominant color since both of them have brown even if the brown is a recessive color.

1F Brown sheepadoodles are not common, especially to come out with a tuxedo brown sheepadoodle puppy.

Because standard poodles can come in many colors, when combined with a gray/white OES, the sheepadoodle puppies come out mostly black and white. In rare instances, they may come out all black.

To get brown sheepadoodles, the breeding is selective and the parent dogs are chosen carefully to create that rare color. It’s interesting to think that what you learned in 8th grade Science can now benefit in the process of predicting the colors and patterns of the sheepadoodle puppies! Who knew that I should have paid more attention while learning about the Punnett Squares.

Some breeders have manipulated the process by creating F1B sheepadoodle puppies to get those brown sheepadoodles; however F1b sheepadoode puppies are 25% OES and 75% Standard Poodle.

Depending on what you’re looking for, F1B has more poodle in them and the colors are more easily manipulated.
