Properly maintaining the hair of a Sheepadoodle is essential not only for their appearance but also for their overall well-being. I’ll provide some best sheepadoodle grooming tips and links to all the grooming products that we use on our own dogs.
Sheepadoodles are considered high maintenance dogs because of the time and effort we put into grooming them. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll answer some common following questions:
- Do Sheepadoodles shed?
- How often do Sheepadoodles need grooming?
- Sheepadoodle grooming tips and cost

If you’re interested in a sheepadoodle, check out our current list of available sheepadoodles.
I have started grooming all of my dogs myself at home DIY style! The costs to groom each dog climbed upwards to $200 including tax and tips. When I did the math, it’s much more cost effective to learn how to groom on my own. I could buy all grooming products for under $200 and they’ll last me many cuts. I also watch many youtube tutorials on how to groom these sheepadoodles. They looked like they definitely got a cut from their mommy the first few times, but my grooming skills have definitely gotten better with practice.
Sheepadoodle Grooming Tips and Tricks for Healthy Coat

💡 Pro Tip: Sheepadoodles need regular Brushing:
✅ Brush Regularly – Aim for 1-2 times a week to prevent matting and tangles.
✅ Use a Doodle Brush – Long bristles reach deep into the coat to remove loose hair and prevent mats. Use this one. It’s on Amazon and cheaper than the actual Doodle brush brand.
✅ Focus on Mat-Prone Areas – Brush behind the ears, under the armpits, and other tangle-prone spots more frequently. I sometimes cut those areas really short.
✅ Keep Hair Manageable – Avoid letting the fur grow too long between grooming sessions.
✅ Gently Remove Mats – If you find a mat, work it out with your fingers or a comb—avoid pulling on the hair. I also spot cut those mats out if they’re bad.
Although sheepadoodles don’t shed like short haired dogs do, they still shed just like how humans shed hair. You’ll find lumps of hair around the house. This is the Deshedder brush that I use to prevent too much shedding.
Bathing Techniques
While Sheepadoodles don’t require frequent grooming, regular bathing is essential. Aim for a bath every 6-8 weeks or as needed. Use a high-quality, hypoallergenic dog shampoo to avoid skin irritation. Thoroughly rinse and dry the coat to prevent dampness, which can lead to matting. Ensure that the ears are completely dry to prevent infections.
Sheepadoodle Grooming Products I use
🛁 This is the shampoo that I use. They are good for the price. In the summer, I actually wash them outside in my backyard with a hose. It makes it so much easier.
🔥This is the professional hair dryer that I use. It cuts the drying time in half. I also leave it blowing into the crate when I walk away to do something else.
🐾I also just invested in this Vacuum grooming kit. This is good for the puppy stage because it’s not strong enough for adult sheepadoodles.
✂️ Andis grooming kit . This is super affordable, under 80$ on Amazon and will last a while. You can buy separate clipons for different fur lengths.
✂️ Scissoring kit: I use the round scissors a lot to round up the head for that puppy teddy bear look. These are beginners kit and I will be graduating to a more expensive set as my skills improve.
Eye and Ear Care
The Sheepadoodle’s long, curly hair can sometimes cause irritation around the eyes. Gently wipe the eye area with a damp cloth to remove any debris. Check the ears regularly for signs of infection, redness, or a foul odor. Clean the ears with a dog-friendly ear cleaner and a cotton ball, being careful not to insert anything into the ear canal.
This powder is used to pluck all the hairs out of the ear canals. If they have an ear infection, you could pluck all the hairs out and then use these drops. Follow the directions on the drops bottle.
I also plan on attending this Grooming Expo hosted in Pasadena. Check out the information. They do this annually.
Proper Nutrition
A healthy coat starts from within. Ensure your Sheepadoodle is on a balanced, high-quality dog food that meets their nutritional needs. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil supplements or certain dog foods, can contribute to a shiny, healthy coat. I buy this fish oil from Pethealthandnutritioncenter.com. I love this store. I also add the multi vitamin into their food. Check out our previous blog on home cooked recipes.
Caring for a Sheepadoodle’s hair involves a combination of regular grooming, proper nutrition, and attention to detail. By following these tips, you’ll not only maintain a beautiful coat but also contribute to the overall health and happiness of your beloved Sheepadoodle. Remember, a well-groomed Sheepadoodle is a happy Sheepadoodle!
