Adopt or Purchase
Sheepadoodles are a designer mix that combine an Old English Sheepdog (OES) with a Standard Poodle. Therefore, sheepadoodle puppies are 50% OES and 50% poodle. Because of the fusion and particularity, it is difficult to find one in a shelter to adopt. Most often, if you have an interest in a sheepdog mixed with poodle, you will have to look for a sheepadoodle for sale in your community or from a breeder.
Researching Stage:
Looking for ads for sheepadoodles for sale can be overwhelming and frustrating. You want to find the best puppy out there that will have a great disposition and come super healthy and happy. Therefore, these are common questions you should ask a breeder:
- Who are the parents? Can I see them?
- How are the puppies raised? Can you show me some videos or pictures?
- Do you have an Instagram or some kind of live account where I can track the growth of the puppies?
- Are the parents DNA tested for diseases?
- Did you breed the two to prevent genetic diseases from being passed down?
- Do you have a website that I can look at?
- Can I come to look at the puppy and talk to you?
- Do you provide breeder support?
- What about shots and medical care?
- Can we keep in touch throughout the process so I know that my puppy will have a smooth transition?
Things to avoid:
- There are scammers out there who will take your money! No doubt! Ask all those questions before making any big decisions.
- When considering buying from out-of-state, do your research and again, ask the right questions.
- Ask to zoom and see the puppy regularly. If not, ask for updated pictures. This will ensure that you will get what you asked for.
- If they ask for your bank account before showing you any proof, don’t do it.
- Don’t meet them at a mall to pick up your puppy.
- Avoid ads for sheepadoodles for sale that don’t have multiple sources of communication
In southern California, a sheepadoodle puppy can cost anywhere from $1500-$4000. Don’t be fooled by the price, cheaper doesn’t mean better. Remember to do your research and ask the appropriate questions.
