Let’s explore the sheepadoodle temperament through different stages of life:
Puppy Stage
Congratulations! You’re about to welcome an adorable, fluffy Sheepadoodle puppy into your home. But don’t be surprised if your little furball is a bit shy at first—new sights, sounds, and smells can be overwhelming! One great way to help them feel more at ease is by asking your breeder for a familiar toy or blanket from their litter. Better yet, if you can drop off a blanket while they’re still with their mom and siblings, it’ll carry the comforting scent of home when they move in with you.
At Sheepadoodle Dynasty, we’re all about making this transition as smooth as possible, so special requests like these are always welcomed!
And here’s a heads-up—your new pup is going to sleep… a lot! Seriously, don’t be alarmed if all they do is snooze the day away. Young puppies can sleep almost 20 hours a day, and they won’t be bouncing off the walls just yet. Give them about a month to settle in, and soon enough, you’ll have a playful, energetic companion ready for all kinds of adventures!
Enjoy those sleepy cuddles while they last! Their puppy personality is so cute at this point.🐾💤
As the sheepadoodle puppies assimilate to your household, they will be more comfortable around the house and being with you. Potty training starts the moment you get them home! With intensity, they could learn to use the bathroom in a designated area as fast as 4 days! They are very smart. Accidents do happen, so it’s not recommended that they sleep with you in the bed. They should have their own designated space that they can retreat to when they need to sleep or have some alone time. Surviving the Sheepadoodle Rebel Phase: Tips for Success
At 6 months, your Sheepadoodle enters their rebellious stage—and you might find yourself wondering, “What have I gotten myself into?” Don’t worry, this phase is temporary! Here’s what to expect and how to manage it:
🐶 Common Behaviors at 6 Months
- Endless curiosity – They’ll get into everything if it’s within reach.
- Chewing frenzy – Shoes, reading glasses, furniture… nothing is safe!
- High energy levels – Boredom = destruction.
🛑 Preventing Household Destruction
✅ Puppy-proof your home – Keep valuables out of reach. Check out our kennel setup on Instagram
✅ Use deterrent sprays – Safe, pet-friendly sprays can help protect furniture and baseboards.
✅ Provide chew toys – Give them appropriate outlets for their teething instincts.
✅ Exercise, exercise, exercise! – A tired dog is a well-behaved dog.
🚴♂️ Exercise Ideas
- Walks & playtime – Daily movement helps burn energy.
- Bike rides – A bike leash allows them to run safely alongside you. Start slow (one block at a time) and gradually increase distance.
- Crate or designated space – When they’re not active, give them a quiet place to rest.
⚠️ Important: Avoid overexertion at this age! Their bones are still developing, so keep runs and intense exercise moderate. As they grow, their endurance will increase—my Sheepadoodle, Kingston, eventually became my 12-mile marathon training buddy!
Hang in there! With patience, training, and plenty of exercise, your pup will outgrow this phase and become the perfect companion. 🐾💙
Your Full-Grown Sheepadoodle: What to Expect & How to Care for Them
Sheepadoodles reach full maturity around 1.5 years old, and by then, with proper training and exercise, they’ll be the perfect mix of cuddle buddy and exercise partner! Here’s what to know as they grow:
🐾 Training & Behavior
- By this stage, they should be fully potty trained and know basic commands.
- Expect a laid-back, couch potato after exercise!
- Stubborn streak? It’s a common Sheepadoodle trait—consistent training is key to preventing long-term issues.
🐕 Grooming & Coat Care
- Lots of fluff! Their thick coat requires regular upkeep.
- Professional grooming too pricey? Invest in a grooming kit (under $200) and learn to shave them yourself. This Andis kit is under 90$.
- Recommended grooming schedule:
✅ Shave down twice a year – July & March.
✅ Use a professional blow dryer to cut drying time in half.
✅ Regular brushing prevents matting—shorter cuts are great for busy owners!
With proper care, your Sheepadoodle will be both a loyal adventure partner and a snuggly teddy bear at home. 🐶💕
