What is F1B Sheepadoodles?

F1B Sheepadoodles are a cross between first generation Sheepadoodle (F1) with a purebred Poodle. This specific generation, denoted as F1B, is known for its increased Poodle genetics, typically resulting in a curlier and more hypoallergenic coat. The F1B Sheepadoodle inherits the favorable traits of both parent breeds, blending the loyal and gentle nature of the Old English Sheepdog with the Poodle’s intelligence and low-shedding coat characteristics. These dogs are often sought after for their friendly disposition, adaptability, and suitability for families with allergies due to their hypoallergenic qualities. The F1B Sheepadoodle makes for a loving companion and is known to excel in various roles, including therapy and assistance work, owing to their trainable and social nature. Besides, who could resist these adorable baby sheepadoodles?!

In the picture below, you can see the ancestry of the puppies going back to the grandparents. The mom, Paisley, is daughter to a rare brown Old English Sheepdog and a Parti Standard Poodle, making her a rare brown Sheepadoodle. Her husband is an apricot Standard Poodle. It’s interesting because colors, patterns, and hair textures of F1B sheepadoodles are often more unpredictable, as one would have never imagine a litter baby sheepadoodles of various colors such as below coming from 2 brown dogs!

A parti tricolor Sheepadoodle is a delightful crossbreed that exhibits a distinctive coat pattern characterized by three distinct colors. The term “parti” refers to a predominantly white coat with well-defined patches or spots of two other colors. In the case of a tricolor Sheepadoodle, these two additional colors often include black and tan. The distribution of these colors can vary, but the most common pattern features a white base with large patches of black and tan, creating a harmonious and visually appealing tricolor effect.

Coat Textures and Patterns

The Sheepadoodle’s hair texture can vary, influenced by its Poodle and Old English Sheepdog parentage. Typically, the Poodle genes contribute to a range of hair textures, including curly, wavy, or straight. The specific texture can differ among individual Sheepadoodles, even within the same litter as you can see in the pictures. These baby sheepadoodles already show what kind of coat they will have in the future.

  1. Curly Hair: Some Sheepadoodles have a curly coat, which is a common trait inherited from Poodles. This type of hair tends to be more prone to matting but is often low-shedding and hypoallergenic.
  2. Wavy Hair: Another common texture is wavy hair, providing a balance between the tight curls and straight strands. Wavy coats are often easier to maintain than curly ones and may have a slightly looser, more relaxed appearance.
  3. Straight Hair: While less common, some Sheepadoodles may have straight hair. This texture is more reminiscent of the Old English Sheepdog parent and may still require regular grooming to prevent matting.
